This was in the mailbox this morning ...
Hey, was wondering if we could post an open thread about negotiating leases. in light of the current rent decreases (see http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/realestate/29cov.html), might be interesting to discuss negotiations to renew our leases. i know we're looking to have our rent decreased, as it's already overpriced, otherwise we're considering moving out.

It's reasonable to ask for a decrease in rent. We're going to ask for 10% decrease with a stipulate increase for the next lease. If you have been paying rent on time for a year, you are more valuable to them. They know you're not likely to screw them. Still, you need to be willing to walk away from the building. And, it makes sense: if our landlord won't give me a rent decrease, my new landlord will...
yeah, we're going to ask for a decrease as well. and we're willing to walk away if we don't get it.
