Need Some Help ......

Hello 132 N 5ers,

This is Doug from 4G. It was nice to meet a lot of you on the 4th!. I just finished cleaning the roof. I need some help. Currently there is about 9 or 10 bags of garbage on the roof and I need help taking them down. I was thinking Friday because that’s when we are supposed take the bags to the street. You won’t want to wear anything you like because
I can honestly say there is a nasty bit of business in those bags.

Also, that little wood table and chairs in the corner are ours. We are having some people over this weekend and will probably be using that table and those chairs quite a bit.

That is all.

This in - not happy with this blog's dialog

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "This in from an Anonymous source & please don’t sh...":

Honestly, this is the wrong way to continue this dialog. There should be a message board where anyone can post their comments, not just respond to certain viewpoints posted by the "moderator." I disagree with about half of the stuff on here, but no debate really occurs, because it all just gets lost in the comments.

My overall opinion, though, is that people need to calm down. It's very, very easy to get riled up when you think people are getting in your space...but then, I would bet a million dollars that a good percentage of you posting actually spend very, very little time on the roof. For the past several years, the building has functioned just fine and the place hasn't burned down, and I think it will continue to do so long after most of us move out.

And whoever called the cops on this Cody guy instead of actually going up there and asking him to turn down music IS a pussy.

This in from an Anonymous source & please don’t shoot the messenger I.E. – Seriously, I’m just the moderator of this blog I did not post this.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "4th of July - 2008":

last night, somebody (i'm assuming either a tenent or their guest) decided it would be fun to trash the bedford ave stairwell). they took a hockey stick to the Chabad's paintings and destroyed the verb cafe's food delivery.

As a result of this latest act of vandalism (one of many in recent months. i.e. graffiti in the halls, trash on the roof and stairwell, etc.) I will be calling the cops if too many random people (say more than 100) end up on the roof on July 4)

Hangin on the roof Saturday, June 28th. Cool?

Hello there peeps.
I'm Jeremy on the second floor. I'm moving to Los Angeles on Sunday (please dont make fun of me. my friends have been brutal!). I was planning on having a get together on the roof with friends and family this saturday at 6pm. At 9 we'll be heading over to Spike Hill to see my band and hang over there for the rest of the night. Just wanted to make sure i'm not stepping on any toes. You are all welcome to come up and grab a PBR and say whatup. If it rains, well. Nevermind!
Many thank you's.
Jeremy
PS - The internet never works.
PPS - I have lived here over a year and ALWAYS clean up after my parties.
PPPS - SOOO sad i'm missing July 4th. Last years party was Epic. But New Orleans should be cool right?

4th of July - 2008

I know there was a crazy party last year but was it or is it organized? They had kind of a doorman but I am in the dark about the machinations of that event.

Shooting for 6:30 ---

Tonight is probably going to be really hot again followed by severe thunders storms. That’s the prediction. Thus I am planning to go on the roof Wednesday night around 8:00 PM with industrial strength garbage bags and a six pack and finish cleaning up the roof. If anyone is interested in helping or if anyone has a better idea let me know. If more people are interested in helping on Wednesday night I will get a case of Corona – so let me know. Thanks. Dear Tenants of 132 N. 5th Street,

Dear Tenants of 132 N. 5th Street,
The blog moderator was nice enough to let us pass this on to the readers of this site. This is to serve as both an apology, and to hopefully clear clear some confusion from this past weekend. We live on the 2nd floor and had been planning a little get together for this past weekend. Obviously, the weather was great, and we did not expect to have the roof all to ourselves. The note shown in the previous post was ours. We occupied the far end (south side) of the roof for a good part of the night. Closer to the door, was another party, the one associated with the greater bulk of the mess. When our food was consumed, beer drank, and our guests left (all by 1:00 or 2:00), we did our best to clean up our section (collected whatever bottles were there at that point) amidst the continued partying/ hanging out that was going on in that area (a lot of which were newcomers). Sometime between 11 and noon the next morning, we went up to round up whatever bottles had accumulated or had been left in our area, collect bottle caps, dispose of any food we missed, lug the bags down, etc. So, there was a bit of mess come morning, some of which was ours, some of which wasn't, but it was handled in a relatively timely manner (probably should have set our alarms earlier, so sorry to any early wakers).

The streamers, and piles of cans and bottles, and tables covered in garbage, and whatever else was left on the north end was not our doing. Many of the people we know in the building were aware that we were going to be up there, so I'd rather not have everyone think that we were on that side of the roof. Unfortunately, living in a building with so many people, there's no way to aim all fault at a certain room or group. I'm sure aside from ours and the other gathering, there were plenty of other people that made their way up there to hang out, drink beers and further the mess. I'm not justifying leaving any mess at all. Just want to apologize for any mess that we did leave, but disassociate ourselves from what wasn't ours.

I did talk to Moses while I was up there the following morning. Aside from cleaning, I think he's equally concerned with tenants telling Landmark ahead of time that they will be holding something. Sorry for the lengthiness of this message but thanks for reading all the way through.

Best,
2A

This just in:

Posted by Cody to 132 N 5 at June 5, 2008 10:45 AM

Well if the roof gets shut down you can thank who ever had the party last weekend. I talked to Moses yesterday and he was upset about the new garbage on the wall next to the chabad house and the noise and mess on the roof. He was saying he is going to shut the roof down.

Hopefully this isn't true...

Notes on the Weekend:

I just wanted to get a new post up - just to get a new post up. Also – I can put a section on the blog main page where people can let other people in the building know that they are looking for roommates etc. Just let me know by saying "please put this up in your comment area" or email the information you want posted to 132north5@gmail.com and I will put it up. I will try to find a way to automate the process. Also I am not 100% sure if we nailed down if and when we want a building meet & greet. Is there anyone willing to own that one?

The jury is already out!

This morning , on my way out to work I noticed commentary on all three of the little tear flyers that were hung in order to get people to go to this blog. All three seem to be either endorsing or condemning this blog.

They read ; “This blog sucks ass”, “This blog kicks ass (what are you talking about?)” and my favorite “Poop in my pants”.

I’m not quite sure what the last one is getting at.

132 N 5 Resident Party ?

I have read this today and have heard other people offer a suggestion of building party so the people in the building can meet people in the building. I think it’s a great idea! Any thoughts or dates etc. ……

First Posting - New to Blogging

Hello

I wanted to submit this posting because I actually live at 132 N 5. I write this in order to facilitate the possibility of us “All Just Getting Along”. I saw a sign that asked the question "Why can't we all just get along" hung in our stairwell after a series of other signs leading up to that one.

About DJ’s and Subwoofers and or heavy base in general on the roof:

If you live on the 4th floor – it is genuinely excruciating. All you get is the base and a lot of it. I have tried pillows over my head, earplugs, pillows and earplugs,. No luck. I have even tried the Bose QuietComfort® 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones to no avail. But For the love of god - the pounding, pounding, pounding in my skull. I am begging for mercy on this one. You could have 400 hundred people on the roof – nothing. However, one person with a DJ or subwoofer – holy fucking shit. You can’t even watch T.V. during the day. I think the roof becomes an extension of the actual speaker cone. Also, It matters very little where you set up the system the above remains to be true.

About jamming the front door open for a party:

This is why I think it’s a bad idea. I recently applied for renters insurance for my apartment here at 132 N 5th St.. This building has a very high “hit” rate. Meaning there has been a lot of burglaries here, one less than two months ago actually. Why not? – the door is wide open. If you don’t believe me, apply for renters insurance yourself. It’s all fun and games until you come home and your shit is missing. Also, you haven’t lived until some nasty sweaty drunken person, comes into your apartment unannounced and uninvited looking for a bathroom – only because you forgot to lock the apartment door. Not to mention the people that just try to open your locked door at all hours which is very creepy on its own. So, I am of the school that if you are having a party you are responsible for knowing who your guests are and you should at the very least know who you are letting into the building. It’s so fucking easy, you could let someone into this building from Beijing with your cell phone.

About the garbage, spilled beer, puke, and or feces (dog & other) on the roof and in the hall:

I seriously don’t believe I have to write this, but I will. It’s just not cool. If it’s your party you have to know it’s your responsibility to clean it up after it as quickly as possible. And if you have a big building party you have to know that the roof is going to be trashed. Going up to the roof on Saturday and or Sunday late morning and finding a dump is really disheartening and the longer it lingers the more disheartening it becomes. This seems to be a relatively new issue. But I have to say with complete sincerity - C'mon, no really, C'mon.
